What is Counseling and Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a type of treatment that aims to help individuals identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. It is treating psychological disorders and mental distress through verbal communication and psychological technique. Psychotherapy can help individuals with mental health issues like anxiety disorders, mood disorders, addictions, eating disorders, personality disorders, among others There are several different types of psychotherapy, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy, supportive therapy and psychoeducation. The goals of psychotherapy can be short-term (a few weeks to months) or long-term (months to years), depending on the individual's needs and preferences. Psychotherapy can be used as an alternative to or alongside medication and other treatment options.
